ERIC SCHMIDT AND ETHAN NASCIMENTO TOP NASCAR LATE MODEL RACES IN ROSEVILLE

ROSEVILLE, Calif. (September 8, 2024) – Roseville’s Eric Schmidt earned his second career JM Environmental Wild West Super Series victory while Ethan Nascimento of Manteca scored his first NASCAR Berco Redwood Late Model win during a red hot Velocity Solar First Responders Night at All American Speedway on Saturday. Granite Bay’s John Moore used the low line to lead the opening 16 laps of the 100-lap Super Series feature with an early challenge on the outside line from his son Cole. The pair of track champions dueled with Schmidt in pursuit from third. Meanwhile two-time 2024 series winner Kenna Mitchell of Loomis and Madera champion Austin Herzog of Clovis collided for fourth behind them. The contact eventually led to a flat left rear tire for Mitchell, bringing out the caution on lap 17.

Cole Moore seized the lead around the outside of John Moore on the restart. Schmidt then drove into second place. Schmidt worked to the inside of Cole Moore to lead lap 40 but Moore answered back on the high side to lead lap 42.

After the competition caution on lap 44, Mitchell re-entered the battling. She challenged Schmidt for second with the duo banging doors down the frontstretch. Mitchell then approached Cole Moore for the lead. She took over command of the feature on lap 60 with a bid on the inside.

Schmidt charged back into the lead on the outside line over Michell on the race’s final restart on lap 72. Mitchell tried to get back at Schmidt, running on his rear bumper until lap 87. Schmidt started to stretch his lead and stormed to victory. Mitchell settled for second followed by John Moore, Cole Moore, and Herzog.

The NASCAR Berco Redwood Pro Late Model feature attracted one of its best fields in several seasons, both in quantity and quality. Jr. Late Model points leader Kylie Glick of Lincoln led the field to green but was quickly challenged by third starting Ethan Nascimento of Manteca. Nascimento nabbed the top spot on lap six and brought along 2022 Pro Late Model track champion Dylan Zampa of Napa into second place. Glick was shuffled back on the high side and 2022 Madera champion Kyle Keller was also freight trained in the process.

Zampa and the fourth-starting Kenna Mitchell, the incoming points leader with two wins, tried to chase down Nascimento. The gap shrunk to just a car length in the closing laps of the 40-lap non-stop contest but Nascimento held court. Ethan Nascimento won his first-career Roseville Pro Late Model win over Zampa, Mitchell, Thomas Martin of Auburn, and Aidan Daniels of Fort Bragg.

NASCAR Velocity Solar Modifieds had a 30-lap feature full of twists and turns with a familiar winner, as Sammy Nuno of Windsor won his second consecutive race. Lincoln’s Cody Rickard paced the field at the start, with plenty of two-by-two action in the early laps. Derrick Doering of Auburn used a crossover to take the lead on lap six before a multi-car melee on the frontstretch involved most of the field including Doering.

Rickard restarted in the lead but was passed on the outside by Nuno. Doering then spun on the front stretch and collected 2023 champion Tyler Wentworth, ending Doering’s night.

Nuno faced off with Richard Poppert, Jr. on the restart and the pair made contact in turn three, sending Poppert for a spin. Nuno held the lead the rest of the way for victory ahead of a resurgent Wentworth in second followed by Rickard, Poppert, and Dan Farrington as the top-five finishers.

Cody Winchel of Sebastopol stamped his ticket to the INEX Nationals in October at Dominion Raceway in Virginia by winning the NorCal Pressler Properties Legends feature. The 35-lap event attracted 26 entries with a 20-lap B-Main narrowing the field to 18-starters. Just one caution slowed the action when the brother and sister duo of Trey and Kylie Daniels of Fort Bragg spun in turn four.

Ukiah’s Cole Brown anchored the first 21 laps of competition before Winchel took the top spot. Brown held second for a dozen laps with a pack of challengers hounding him. Brenden Ruzbarsky of Tracy took second on lap 32 but was unable to reel in Winchel. Winchel topped Ruzbarsky, June winner Brandon White of Eureka, Henry Barton of San Fransisco, and Brown.

Phil Wilkins dominated the NAPA Auto Parts Super Stocks 30-lap event for his third consecutive win. Tim Walters finished second followed by Roy Smith of Roseville, Ryan Skidmore, and Wade Volz of North Highlands.

Vic Theberge of Citrus Heights earned his second F4 win of the season on Saturday night, taming the 30-lap feature. Ray Molina of Elverta and Roseville’s Matthew Fuhs had plenty of side-by-side racing at the front of the pack. Fuhs got sideways on the backstretch on lap 10, allowing Molina sole possession of the lead. It was short lived however as Theberge took over on lap 12.

Theberge navigated comfortably through lapped traffic the rest of the way home. Molina’s engine blew from the fourth position on the white flag lap, ending the race a lap early. Theberge, John Sproule, Fuhs, Molina, and Brandon Frantz of Lincoln were the top-five finishers.

12-year-old Vito Cancilla of Martinez returned to All American Speedway after winning the 2023 Jr. Late Model championship, winning Saturday’s 25-lap feature with a healthy margin. Cancilla accumulated a 6.9 second advantage at the checkered flag. Points leader Kylie Glick of Lincoln finished second followed by Colton Nelson of Auburn, Chase Lopez of Castro Valley, and Bella Thomsen of El Dorado Hills.

Roseville’s Loren Chitwood won the 15-lap NAPA Auto Parts Trailer Bash as well.
